Appam - non-stick patra

With a new discovery surfacing every day, it has never been so easy to make those traditional recipes that otherwise take a lot of work. One such dish is Appam which is basically originated from Kerala. If you want the taste of the real authentic Appam, it’s a lot of mess. But today we’re going to share a full proof recipe that’ll help you make perfect Appams every time using Non-stick Appam Patra.
Here’s what you’ll need:
  • Non-stick Appam Patra
  • 2 cups rice
  • 2 grams yeast
  • 1 cup grated coconut
  • 2 teaspoons of sugar
  • Salt according to taste
  • Oil
  • Water

Follow these steps and you’ll end up with delicious Appams.
  • Start off with soaking the rice in water for 6 hours.
  • In a small bowl, mix the grated coconut and sugar.
  • Drain the excess water from the rice and blend it with the coconut mixture. Now take out the batter in a bowl.
  • Now in a small bowl, add the yeast and a little warm water. Mix it thoroughly and combine the yeast solution with the batter.
  • Mix it well and let the batter ferment in a warm place for 6 hours. The key to perfect Appams is proper fermentation. So you need to make sure the batter is properly fermented in a warm place. Also don’t add the salt just yet.
  • After 6 hours, you’ll notice the batter will almost double in volume. Give it a good mix and add the salt.
  • Now take the non-stick Appam mixture and put it on the stove.
  • Just take a paper towel, dip it in oil and lightly grease the Appam patra.
  • Now don’t let the Appam patra heat for too long. If the Appam patra will get too hot, the batter won’t be able to spread properly.
  • So while the Appam patra is tad warm, pour in a tablespoon of the batter into all the little Appam containers.
  • Cover the Appam patra to let the Appam cook nicely from the steam.
  • After a minute or two, slide a spoon and your Appam will come right off.
  • Serve on a banana leaf for a more authentic look.

So while using a non-stick Appam Patra, you can be more in control of the amount of oil you’re using. Since the non-stick Patra doesn’t require any oil, your Appams will come out tastier and healthier than ever. The traditional appam was made in aluminum or iron containers. And as you can guess, a lot of oil went into it. But with the Non-stick Appam patras slightly greasing it does the trick.
So go get yourself a non-stick Appam patra and get started with this amazing recipe. Just follow the steps and it will never let you down.
